How Net Metering Works

When your panels produce more than you use, the surplus flows to the grid and your meter runs backward. At night, you draw from the grid. You only pay for the net difference.

Grid-Tie Equipment

You need a UL-listed grid-tie inverter (or microinverters), an AC disconnect, and in most areas the utility requires a bi-directional meter and an interconnection agreement.

Getting Permission

Apply for interconnection with your utility before connecting. Many utilities need an electrical contractor sign-off for the AC side. Never energize a grid-tie system without approval.
